The building and construction sector accounts for the largest share of contracting projects during the past month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The monthly report issued by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sca.sa\/\">Saudi Contractors Authority<\/a><\/strong> For February 2026, activity continued in the projects market, as the sector witnessed the awarding of four new projects with a total value exceeding 2.8 billion riyals, which reveals the stability of the pace of government and private offerings of strategic projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report indicated that <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amlak.net.sa\/en\/88838\/\">Building and Construction Sector<\/a><\/strong> It accounted for the largest share of the total value of projects tendered during the month, amounting to approximately 2.52 billion riyals, representing half of the total number of awarded projects. The remaining projects were distributed across the water and energy sectors, highlighting the diversification of investments between urban development and the enhancement of essential utility services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the sub-sector level, the four projects were distributed with one project per sector, but the differences in value were clear. The entertainment facilities sector topped the list in terms of investment volume, exceeding 1.8 billion riyals, demonstrating the growing interest in tourism and cultural projects. The hotel sector came in second place with a value exceeding 716 million riyals, indicating the continued expansion of hotel infrastructure to keep pace with tourism growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the projects awarded in February, the Iconic Museum project, part of the second phase of the Diriyah project, stood out as the largest in terms of value, exceeding SAR 1.3 billion in the Riyadh region. This project is owned by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority and the Public Investment Fund. Other projects included a hotel within the Diriyah Media and Innovation District, valued at SAR 1.2 billion, also for the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. In the energy sector, a project to replace underground cable circuits in Riyadh, valued at approximately SAR 160 million, was awarded to the Saudi Electricity Company. Meanwhile, in the water sector, a project to operate and maintain the water network and associated facilities in Madinah, valued at over SAR 133 million, was awarded to the National Water Company, reflecting continued investment in enhancing the efficiency of essential services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report indicated that the implementation of the projects proposed during February will extend over two years, as three projects are expected to be delivered during 2028 with a total value exceeding two billion riyals, while one project will be delivered during 2029 with a value exceeding 133 million riyals, which reflects the long-term nature of the sector\u2019s projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nine projects have been awarded since the beginning of 2026.<\/strong><br>With the addition of the February projects, the total number of projects awarded since the beginning of 2026 has risen to nine, with a total value of approximately SAR 14.6 billion. January saw the awarding of five projects worth around SAR 11.74 billion, followed by four new projects in February valued at SAR 2.81 billion, confirming a strong start to the year for the contracting market. The report anticipates continued activity in March 2026, with approximately 16 new projects being awarded to contractors. More than half of these are expected to be concentrated in the construction sector, along with the water and energy sector, reflecting the continued priority given to infrastructure development and urban projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estimates also suggest that the Riyadh, Makkah, and Eastern Province regions will account for nearly half of the anticipated projects, given the continued development momentum in these areas as key hubs for economic and tourism projects. The coming period is expected to witness the launch of new projects by major entities, including Jeddah Economic Company, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Building Development Company, the Saudi Water Partnerships Company, Saudi Aramco, and Kingdom Holding Company.
