The tourism sector in Saudi Arabia has been experiencing sustained growth in recent years, driven by infrastructure development, the expansion of hotel facilities, and rising tourist demand, which was reflected in occupancy rates, prices, and job opportunities during the fourth quarter of 2025, according to data General Authority for Statistics<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hotel Occupancy Rates Rise, Serviced Apartments Remain Stable<\/strong>
Recorded Hotels<\/a><\/strong> In the Kingdom, the occupancy rate rose to approximately 57.3% during the fourth quarter of 2025, compared to 56% in the same period of 2024, reflecting improved demand for hotel accommodations.

Occupancy rates fluctuated significantly during the period from 2023 to 2025, with hotel occupancy rates ranging between 46% and 63%, while serviced apartments stabilized within a range of approximately 50% to 58%, with strong performance in certain periods such as the first quarter of 2025, when hotel occupancy reached 63%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Variations in Occupancy Rates Across the Kingdom's Regions<\/strong>
The data revealed clear differences between regions:
Medina topped the list of highest hotel occupancy rates at 81.5%, followed by Riyadh at 67.6% and then the Eastern Province at 60.6%. As for serviced apartments, Riyadh ranked first with a rate of 70.5%, followed by Najran at 60% and then the Eastern Province at 57.8%.
In contrast, Al-Baha recorded the lowest occupancy rates, at 26.5% for hotels and 29.6% for serviced apartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Average Daily Room Rates Decline<\/strong>
The average room rate at hotels was approximately 389 riyals during the fourth quarter of 2025, a decrease of about 12% compared to the previous year, while serviced apartments recorded an average rate of approximately 207 riyals, a decrease of about 6%.
This decline reflects a balance between supply and demand, along with an increase in the sector's capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price Variations Across Regions<\/strong>
Prices varied significantly across the Kingdom's regions:
Riyadh recorded the highest average hotel rate at 845 riyals, while Tabuk topped the list for serviced apartments at 150 riyals.
While Najran and the northern border region were among the least expensive, this reflects differences in tourist demand from one region to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Length of Stay: Relative Stability in Visitor Behavior<\/strong>
The average length of stay for guests at hotels was approximately 3.8 nights during the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with 2.2 nights at serviced apartments.
The figures show that Makkah recorded the longest average hotel stay at 4.4 nights, while Riyadh recorded 2.6 nights; most other regions ranged between 1.7 and 2.3 nights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong Growth in Employment in the Tourism Sector<\/strong>
The number of people employed in the tourism sector rose to approximately 1.03 million during the fourth quarter of 2025, an increase of about 7% compared to the previous year.
The number of Saudi workers stood at approximately 247,500 (24%), while the number of non-Saudi workers reached 783,100 (76%), reflecting the sector\u2019s heavy reliance on expatriate labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Distribution of Tourism Jobs by Region<\/strong>
Riyadh topped the list of regions in terms of the number of workers in the tourism sector, with approximately 340,000 employees, representing 33% of the total workforce.
