<\/strong>witnessed Tourism sector <\/a><\/strong>Saudi Arabia has seen remarkable growth in recent years, with the total number of tourists (domestic and international) rising from about 63 million in 2016 to approximately 123 million by the end of 2025, according to official data, highlighting the success of tourism policies in enhancing the Kingdom\u2019s appeal as a diverse global destination that combines religious, recreational, and cultural tourism.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>In terms of spending, the sector posted strong performance, with total tourist spending in 2025 reaching approximately 304 billion Saudi riyals\u2014a record figure that reflects the strong demand for tourism services in the Kingdom. In the first quarter of 2026, total tourism spending (domestic and international) rose to approximately 82.7 billion riyals, while domestic tourism spending reached approximately 34.7 billion riyals, an increase of 8%, confirming the continued growth of domestic demand as a key driver of the sector.
I also recorded Tourism <\/a><\/strong>During the school vacation season for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, domestic tourism generated 10.2 billion riyals in spending, a 5% increase, with the number of domestic tourists reaching 10 million during that period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>witnessed Hospitality sector <\/a><\/strong>This represents significant growth, as the number of licensed hospitality facilities rose to 5,937 by the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, marking a 34.2% increase compared to the previous year, distributed among hotels and serviced apartments. Hotels recorded an occupancy rate of 57.3% during the fourth quarter of 2025, while the occupancy rate for serviced apartments stood at 55.9%, with the average length of stay rising to 3.8 nights in hotels and 2.2 nights in serviced apartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>The tourism sector has contributed to the creation of a huge number of jobs, with the number of people employed in tourism-related activities exceeding 1.2 million, including more than 1.03 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, representing an annual growth rate of 6.6%.
The sector is one of the Kingdom\u2019s leading drivers of employment, with approximately 247,000 Saudis working in it, accounting for 24% of the total workforce, while women accounted for approximately 13.3%, with the participation of Saudi women expected to rise to about 47% of the total number of Saudis working in the sector by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>The Kingdom is witnessing significant expansion in tourism projects, with the Minister of Tourism announcing that the private sector is currently driving this growth, along with plans to build approximately 150,000 new hotel rooms in the coming years as part of a strategy to boost the sector\u2019s capacity.
The projects also include the development of major tourist destinations such as the Red Sea, Al-Ula, and Jeddah, as well as new cities and entertainment destinations under Vision 2030, which aims to transform the Kingdom into a comprehensive global tourist destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>Saudi Arabia aims to increase the tourism sector\u2019s contribution to GDP to 10%, compared to about 3% when the Vision was launched in 2016, in addition to boosting the sector\u2019s contribution to employment, which has currently risen to about 5%, according to official statements.
The Kingdom is also working to strengthen international cooperation, attract international organizations, and host regional offices\u2014such as the United Nations World Tourism Organization in Riyadh\u2014thereby reinforcing its status as a global tourism hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
