Record growth driven by demand and major Saudi projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It experienced exceptional growth <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amlak.net.sa\/en\/87545\/\">Building Materials Industry<\/a><\/strong> In Saudi Arabia over the past few years, driven by an unprecedented volume of development, infrastructure, and housing projects\u2014as part of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030\u2014which has reshaped the landscape of demand for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amlak.net.sa\/en\/65295\/\">Building materials <\/a><\/strong>It has made the sector one of the most important drivers of the non-oil economy.<br>This growth coincides with the accelerated implementation of major projects in Riyadh, the Red Sea, Jeddah, and the Eastern Province, which has led to increased demand for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amlak.net.sa\/en\/87914\/\">Iron<\/a><\/strong> wood, aluminum, and other construction materials, and significantly increase the sector\u2019s contribution to economic and industrial output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A market worth more than 400 billion riyals annually <\/strong><br>According to experts in the building materials industry, the construction sector in the Kingdom is worth more than 400 billion riyals annually, reflecting the growing level of activity in the domestic market.<br>They note that this large volume is distributed across three main segments, with basic materials such as iron, wood, and aluminum accounting for approximately 200 billion riyals, while the support services sector\u2014such as engineering supervision and project management\u2014is estimated at 140 to 150 billion riyals, and the infrastructure and equipment transportation sector accounts for approximately 70 billion riyals, reflecting the complexity of the value chain in the Saudi construction sector.<br>These figures were released amid what has been described as the \u201dgolden age of the Kingdom\u2019s building materials sector,\u201d driven by the scale of the massive projects currently underway in various regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A leading regional position<\/strong><br>Estimates indicate that the value of the construction sector in Saudi Arabia exceeds 91 billion U.S. dollars, making the Kingdom one of the largest construction markets in the Middle East, with growth expected to continue in the coming years as government and private projects expand. The market size for basic construction materials\u2014such as steel, wood, and aluminum\u2014is estimated at approximately 200 billion Saudi riyals, reflecting the significant role these materials play in the construction industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Steel is the backbone of the building materials industry<\/strong><br>Annual steel consumption in the Kingdom amounts to approximately 14 million metric tons, of which about 10 million metric tons are produced domestically, while approximately 4 million metric tons are imported to meet growing demand.<br>The steel sector is divided into three main categories: long products used in construction, which are growing at a rate of between 4% and 5% annually, flat products, which are experiencing higher growth exceeding 7% annually, driven by industrial demand; and specialty steel used in advanced industries such as defense, energy, and aerospace.<br>The growing demand for steel is directly linked to major projects in Riyadh, the Red Sea projects, and the expansion of Jeddah and the Eastern Province, which is driving the sector\u2019s continued growth despite global challenges related to raw material prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Volume of Industrial Investments <\/strong><br>According to a report by the National Center for Industrial and Mining Information, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the volume of investment in the building materials sector reached approximately 336 billion riyals (89.6 billion dollars) in 2023, compared to 333 billion riyals in 2022, marking an 1% growth rate.<br>The number of industrial licenses in the sector also rose to 183 in 2023, compared with 132 in the previous year, representing a growth rate of 39%, which reflects the sector\u2019s increasing appeal for industrial investment.<br>A report by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources showed that the number of building materials factories rose to 2,065 in 2023, compared to 1,955 in 2022, representing a growth rate of 6%.<br>The number of workers in the sector also rose to 144,700, compared to 134,000, representing a growth rate of 8%, while the number of Saudi workers reached approximately 40,800, up from 34,800, representing a growth rate of 17%, reflecting the acceleration of Saudization efforts in the industrial sector.<br>The number of factories within industrial cities also rose to 483, up from 450, while the number of factories outside industrial cities reached 1,582, up from 1,505, reflecting the sector\u2019s broad geographic spread within the Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Organizing and developing the sector through new initiatives<\/strong><br>As part of efforts to develop the building materials sector, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources launched the \u201cCoordinating Council for Mining Complexes\u201d initiative to strengthen integration between the public and private sectors in building materials quarries, increase investment and operational efficiency, and improve the business environment.
