\n The value of MENA M&A deals received and announced in the region increased to USD 10.6 billion in the first half of 2013 from USD 5.1 billion in the first half of 2012, an increase of 108%.
\n On the other hand, the report showed that the value of outbound deals declined by 37% from $10.5 billion in the first half of 2012 to $6.6 billion in the first half of 2013, and the value of domestic deals declined by 13%.
\n Phil Gander, Head of Deal Advisory Services at EY MENA, said: \u201cThe doubling of inbound deal value since the first half of 2012 is an interesting trend, with both inbound and outbound deal flows showing a different trend compared to last year, with outbound deal value almost double that of inbound deal value. The UAE continues to play a key role in attracting investment to the region, accounting for 25% of inbound deal volume in the first half of 2013. This overall positive improvement in inbound investment points to continued confidence in the MENA market regardless of the political situation in some countries in the region.\u201d.
\nEgypt recorded the largest inbound deal by value, accounting for 83% of the total inbound deal value in H1, with two large announced deals totaling USD 8.3 billion in the telecommunications and construction sectors. The telecom sector accounted for most of the inbound deal value, mainly due to the USD 6.4 billion acquisition of Egypt's Orascom Telecom Holding by Bascandal, which was the largest deal in the first half of 2013.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
