The Secretary General of the Saudi Green Building Forum, Engineer Faisal Al-Fadl, confirmed in a special statement to Al-Amal Al-Areeyah newspaper that the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for Green Buildings, which is overseen by the forum, has achieved remarkable progress in establishing and spreading the culture of green buildings and their concept, thanks to the great efforts the forum has continued to make through its various events. The Secretary General added that since the launch of the initiative in 2010, the forum has been committed to fulfilling its duty towards all specialized sectors in construction operations by raising awareness among them about all the latest developments related to green buildings.<\/p>\n

Regarding the nature of green buildings, Engineer Al-Fadl explained that they are those buildings that utilize energy and resources efficiently and are environmentally responsible, adding that they take into account design, construction methods, and operational practices that significantly reduce or eliminate the negative effects of construction on the environment while maintaining a healthy environment for their residents.<\/p>\n

In his talk with \u201dAmalak\u201d, Engineer Al-Fadl touched upon the role of the Saudi Green Building Forum, which consists of promoting and facilitating the practice of green buildings in Saudi Arabia by raising public awareness, providing training and education, and helping the construction and building sector to transition towards green buildings, encouraging builders and suppliers to produce and supply environmentally responsible products, aligning and developing, and operating a system for classifying green buildings that meets local environmental requirements while taking international experiences into account.<\/p>\n

In an interactive step with the audience, the official and documented Twitter account of the forum surveyed the participants\u2019 opinions on their knowledge of green buildings. The survey showed that 60% supported the idea that green buildings are only buildings and neighborhoods that are certified by the Saudi and American Council, while 30% believed that they are buildings that specialize in designing certain methods in addition to landscaping, agriculture, and hanging flowers on them intensively, indicating that the concept of green buildings, while 5% of the participants believed that they are buildings painted in green.<\/p>\n

It is noteworthy that the Saudi Green Building Forum is a non-governmental, non-profit, and independent organization with separate legal personality and financial status that promotes job opportunities and investment in green building projects and sustainability towards developing the construction and building sector, and a professional reference that documents the work and projects of green buildings, services, and products that are friendly to people and the environment to protect consumers in light of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts towards the importance of self-sufficiency in natural resources, reducing consumption, attracting clean energy, recycling, and water, and utilizing local green building materials to enhance the local economy and serve the homeland. The forum is concerned with cultural, economic, and urban aspects and seeks to preserve Saudi identity and the environmental heritage to reduce the negative impacts on urban development, protect and enhance the foundations of sustainable development and the green economy for the benefit of the people's safety, health, and the environment, with the aim of enabling members, including scientists, writers, engineers, specialists, businesspeople, and institutions to achieve optimal solutions and to promote creativity, innovation, and investment in building technologies.
