The Saudi-Chinese Business Forum concluded its proceedings yesterday with the signing of a number of joint agreements, with the participation of Saudi Minister of Commerce and Investment Majid Al-Qasabi, Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih, and Vice Chairman of the China Council for International Trade Development Wang Jinzhen, The forum\u2019s significance stems from its timing, coinciding with the visit to China by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Crown Prince, Second Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense.<\/p>\n

Promising Chinese Investments in the Kingdom<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

At the start of the forum, Wang delivered an opening address in which he welcomed the attendees and spoke about the economic cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the People\u2019s Republic of China, calling for the expansion of this cooperation to greater heights in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly nations. He noted that there are promising investment opportunities in the Kingdom that are encouraging the Chinese business sector to invest there, pointing out that China is the Kingdom\u2019s leading partner in terms of trade and investment.<\/p>\n

For his part, Al-Qasabi, in a speech, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Saudi-Chinese Business Council for organizing this forum to strengthen and develop trade and investment partnerships between the Kingdom and China.<\/p>\n

He noted that Saudi-Chinese relations are seeing tangible progress in all areas, particularly in the economic, trade, investment, industrial, and services sectors, adding that Prince Mohammed bin Salman\u2019s visit to China served to underscore this.<\/p>\n

A Vision for Expanding Investments<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Qasabi explained that the Kingdom\u2019s development and economic \u201cVision\u201d is an ambitious and robust vision based on expanding investments and partnerships between nations, noting that China is the Kingdom\u2019s leading trading partner. He told the Saudi Business Forum \u2013 China Business Forum that the Vision was designed to accelerate efforts to improve the investment environment, enhance the Kingdom\u2019s international competitiveness, and develop investment opportunities in numerous promising sectors with untapped potential, such as information technology, housing, real estate development, transportation, mining, the defense industry, andalternative energy, among others.<\/p>\n

Al-Qasabi noted that the Kingdom has opened up the commercial sector to foreign investment with 100% ownership, subject to certain regulations, as one of the steps toward achieving greater stability, He noted that the Chinese business sector is seeking further opportunities for growth and expansion in investment and production beyond its borders, and that the Kingdom is the primary and most suitable hub for expansion into the markets of the Middle East and Africa, where all the necessary conditions and opportunities are available to help investors achieve the highest rates of profitability with the lowest risk in a competitive environment supported by advanced infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Reviving the Silk Road<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Minister Al-Qasabi said: \u201cChina\u2019s serious efforts to revive the Silk Road, with a focus on the Middle East to connect the eastern and western hemispheres, are in line with the Kingdom\u2019s Vision 2030, as the Vision is based on transforming the Kingdom\u2019s unique strategic location among major global waterways into a global logistics hub and leveraging this to make the Kingdom a nexus between Asia, Europe, and Africa, a center for trade, and a gateway to global markets, Therefore, the Kingdom can play a vital and pivotal role in implementing the Silk Road strategy.\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources, noted that \u00abSaudi Vision 2030\u00bb is committed to diversifying the Kingdom\u2019s economy, expressing pride that the Kingdom leads the world in the energy sector and will not relinquish this leadership. He added that the Kingdom and China will have active investment relations that will build upon what already exists in the energy sector, and explained that \u00abSaudi Vision 2030\u00bb \u2014launched under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and led by the Council of Economic and Development Affairs with continuous oversight by Prince Mohammed bin Salman to turn this vision into reality\u2014is fully integrated with the Belt and Road Initiative, which waslaunched by Chinese President Xi Jinping.<\/p>\n

Industrial Cooperation as a Complementary Pillar to Energy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Falih noted that energy will not be the sole focus of the Saudi economy or of the bilateral relationship between the two countries, explaining that industry will be another complementary pillar of the international leadership the Kingdom has achieved, and calling on the Chinese business sector to seize this opportunity and be among the first to invest in the Kingdom\u2019s industrial sector.<\/p>\n

He expressed his hope to double the massive investments between major corporations, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises in the Kingdom and China, in addition to existing investments between numerous companies in both countries, He called on the Chinese business sector to invest in the mining sector, noting that the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources is committed to doubling the mining sector\u2019s contribution to the Saudi economy\u2019s gross domestic product, and that this sector is open to foreign investment and will be opened up even further in the future.<\/p>\n

9 Trade and Investment Agreements<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Following the conclusion of the forum\u2019s sessions, Al-Qasabi, Al-Falih, and Wong witnessed the signing of a number of trade and investment agreements between the Saudi and Chinese sides, as follows:<\/p>\n
