Construction of this phase will commence within 40 months of its start in the middle of this year. The two construction phases will enable the new airport, which will connect Khartoum, North Darfur, and White Nile states, to serve twelve million passengers annually, up from the current four million at the old airport. Engineer Fatima Mohamed Latif, the project manager for the new airport, confirmed that the Chinese company will carry out all infrastructure-related operations for both construction phases. She added that international consulting firms will be appointed to supervise the construction processes according to the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for airport buildings.

Consultant Fatima pointed out that the Sudanese government has prepared all the facilities necessary to facilitate navigation for both phases, including internal roads in each state, as well as highways connecting these states, and the airport's perimeter fences and control towers designed according to international standards. The new airport is located approximately 40 kilometers from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and is equipped with the latest technological and technical resources related to logistics services for arriving, departing, and transiting aircraft, as well as cargo, storage, and other operations. This airport will be the most efficient regional airport for connecting various international systems and the most important for linking Arab countries and the African continent. Regarding investments in the airport's various internal facilities, Engineer Fatima stated, "We welcome all Arab and foreign investments, especially Gulf investments, which are valued at tens of billions of dollars across various sectors in Sudan.".

At a cost of more than one billion dollars...
Sudan to build Africa's largest airport
Manama-Agencies
On the sidelines of the Bahrain International Airshow 2014, Sudan signed a trade agreement with the Chinese company EBE, worth $680 million, to implement the second phase of the new Khartoum International Airport, which is considered the largest airport in the African continent.

This is the second agreement with the Chinese company, which was entrusted with implementing the first phase of the new airport's infrastructure construction, costing $700 million.
