\nThe UAE ranked first among the top five countries in the region in terms of foreign direct investment inflows between 2008 and 2012, with a total value of $14.6 billion.
\n This was stated in the first edition of the report released by the Annual Investment Forum in its fourth edition\u2014and for the first time since its launch\u2014in collaboration with FDI Intelligence, the foreign direct investment magazine of the Financial Times Group, titled \u201cInvestment Partnerships for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in Emerging and Developing Markets.\u201d.
\n The report also showed that the list of the ten largest global cross-border deals involving Middle Eastern companies included the acquisition by the UAE\u2019s \u00abEtisalat\u00bb of the French company Vivendi\u2019s 53% stake in Maroc Telecom, valued at $6.10 billion, and the acquisition by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority of the British Marriott hotel group, which includes 42 hotels in the United Kingdom valued at $0.97 billion.
\nAlso, Philip Morris's acquisition of a 49% stake in Arab Investors in the UAE for $0.63 billion.
\nThe report noted that UAE investments feature prominently among the top 10 foreign direct investments in new projects in Africa in terms of capital investment in 2013.
\nFor the first time, the report drew on various sources of investment data from reputable investment institutions and international organizations to provide a comprehensive overview and present different investment perspectives.
\nIn his remarks, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, emphasized the importance of launching the report for the first time at the annual investment forum, noting that the world has witnessed radical changes in the global economy amid fundamental shifts that have created a new international economic landscape on the one hand, and a new geographical landscape for investment on the other.
\nAl-Mansouri added that emerging markets have become the main driver of global economic growth and significant investors in their own right, and this is a celebration of the major transformations that led to the creation of the annual investment forum, the first edition of which was launched in 2011.
\nHe noted that the past three editions of the Annual Investment Forum have demonstrated that the forum serves as an inclusive platform that brings together under one roof decision-makers, major companies, leaders, and senior officials from multilateral institutions and civil society, and this is the essence and mission of the event: to bring participants together under one umbrella through an exclusive forum for discussion and the exchange of views and experiences.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
