The Red Sea Development Company has begun taking the first steps toward implementing the airport for the Red Sea Project, having signed a contract for its design with the British firm \u201cFoster + Partners.\u201d The airport will have a capacity of one million passengers and will serve both domestic and international flights, with a peak total capacity of 900 passengers per hour. The airport will also feature a sustainable, eco-friendly design that harmonizes with the beauty of the surrounding landscape and embodies the vision of the Red Sea Project, in line with the sustainable development goals set by the Red Sea Development Company since the project\u2019s launch. On this occasion, John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Development Company, said: \u201cThe awarding of the airport design contract is a crucial step, as it is the first major infrastructure project to be developed in the destination.\u201d.<\/p>\n

For his part, Ian Williamson, Senior Project Delivery Manager at The Red Sea Development Company, said: \u201cThis state-of-the-art airport will offer a one-of-a-kind experience for our visitors, and smart technology will play a pivotal role in its development. This airport will be the first experience for visitors to The Red Sea Project, and we aim to provide a flexible arrival experience that immerses our guests in the destination\u2019s atmosphere from the moment their planes land.\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Red Sea Project is one of the most ambitious tourism projects in the world. It is a new luxury destination being developed on the islands and along the coast of the Red Sea\u2014one of the world\u2019s most beautiful and diverse natural settings\u2014and will help put the Kingdom on the global tourism map. The project site comprises an archipelago of more than 90 pristine islands, as well as dormant volcanoes, breathtaking natural scenery, mountains, and natural and cultural landmarks. This destination will exceed expectations by providing the highest standards of excellence in tourism services, utilizing the latest technology to deliver an exceptional hospitality experience that meets visitors\u2019 needs. The Red Sea Project is expected to begin welcoming guests by the end of 2022.<\/p>\n

In addition to the international airport, the first phase of the project will include the development of 14 hotels offering 3,000 hotel rooms across five islands, as well as two resorts in the mountainous and desert regions, along with commercial and entertainment facilities, retail stores, and other infrastructure. Upon completion in 2030, the destination will offer approximately 8,000 hotel rooms to be developed across 22 islands, as well as six resorts in mountainous and desert regions. It will also implement visitor management to protect the destination from \u201covertourism\u201d and ensure a smooth and comfortable experience throughout guests\u2019 stays.<\/p>\n
