The trade ministers of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait revealed the need for the region's economic policies to quickly adapt to the changes of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and catch up with artificial intelligence by promoting private sector entrepreneurship and instilling the values of innovation and creativity in the Arab youth, this came during their participation in the closing business of the 18th Arab Business Owners and Investors Conference held in Bahrain from November 11 to 13 this year. Bahraini Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Zayed Al-Zayani emphasized the importance of moving quickly to keep pace with the radical shift in the economic structure, noting that we now have no option to compare, measure and evaluate, and everything we waste in thinking is considered backward. Al-Zayani explained that the fourth industrial revolution has already come and is accelerating towards the fifth industrial revolution, and we are not ready for that yet. It is better to focus on the shortcomings to buy time.<\/p>\n
Zayani explained that the education system is the basis for preparing a new generation and instilling the importance of creativity and innovation from kindergarten. In Bahrain, we insisted on lowering the age of those working in the commercial register to 18 years, and therefore the foundations must be planted in education based on boldness in investment, risk-taking and entrepreneurship, as we have come to accept the marriage of an 18-year-old, for example, but do not provide him with money, referring to the lack of risk-taking by young people in entrepreneurship and opening new markets.<\/p>\n
\u00abWe have gone through several stages in the Kingdom, starting with the oil revolution in the first half of the 20th century, through the banking revolution in the 1970s and Islamic banking in the 1980s, to the ICT revolution at the beginning of the new millennium, with Bahrain ranking high in internet usage and smartphone penetration, with 54 telecommunications companies supporting the employment of Bahrainis,\u00bb Zayani added.<\/p>\n
Al Zayani emphasized that the private sector must take the lead. It is time for the private sector not to wait for life preservers from the government, and it must be the main catalyst and driver of innovation and entrepreneurship. There is no point in crying over spilled milk, and we must always take the initiative to be at the forefront and stimulate creativity among Arab youth.<\/p>\n
Al-Zayani pointed out that the world has become open and can compete with any nationality anywhere around the world, but we still suffer in the Arab countries from false protection, and it is time for the private sector to come out of this trait and must prepare itself to compete with any nationality in any country and become qualified by its competence and not by its nationality. We must motivate ourselves as traders and entrepreneurs representing the private sector to go out and conquer the world.<\/p>\n
Zayani reviewed Bahrain's new experience in establishing the Bahrain Export Center to incentivize Bahraini companies to export their products, which in its first year succeeded in benefiting 30 Bahraini companies that were able to export to 25 markets around the world with an export volume of more than $15 million.<\/p>\n
Khalid Al-Roudan, Kuwait's Minister of Commerce and Industry, said that the Arab Gulf countries have made remarkable progress in the economic agenda and recorded qualitative leaps, pointing out that the Gulf people are open and know how to harness technology to create a commercial field. Al-Roudan added that amending the legislative structure is one of the challenges facing digital transformation, and opportunities must be exploited in the face of the challenges before us to fight the Fourth Industrial Revolution.<\/p>\n
Al-Roudan stressed that the Fourth Industrial Revolution will come in the interest of the countries of the region, especially since capital is available to invest in artificial intelligence, reduce dependence on low-educated or unskilled labor, reduce dependence on depleting natural resources, and promote the integration of markets with the convergence of societies and peoples of the region.<\/p>\n
