The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's transportation sector jumped to the first place in the world in terms of ease of doing business, advancing 72 places in the \u201cCross-Border Trade\u201d index, which reduced the time and costs of importing and exporting goods. This achievement comes as a culmination of the concerted efforts made by the various entities related to the Saudi logistics platform, such as the General Authority for Ports, Saudi Customs and others, to adapt technology and implement various initiatives and reform programs such as the initiative to clear containers within 24 hours and reduce the length of stay of containers, in addition to the many facilities provided to investors, marine agents and brokers.<\/p>\n
In the same context, Minister of Transportation Saleh Al-Jasser emphasized: This success came thanks to a series of legislative reforms introduced in the Saudi logistics platform, which included reducing the time taken for customs clearance from 7-10 days to 24 hours, reducing the rate of manual inspection in customs from 89 % to 48 %, reducing the number of documents required for import from 12 to 2, and export from 8 to 2.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Chairman of the National Transport Committee of the Council of Chambers, Saeed Al-Bassami, stressed that the government agencies provide the necessary and sufficient support to ensure that the private sector enables it to play the required role in developing the logistics industry and overcoming the obstacles that were facing this sector and preventing it from achieving what is hoped for within the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which seeks to maximize the benefits of the Kingdom's exceptional and strategic geographical presence to build a unique center for transportation and logistics services in the region.<\/p>\n
Saeed Al-Bassami pointed out that the Kingdom's great success in advancing 72 places in the \u201ccross-border trade\u201d index is the result of the concerted efforts of the various government agencies concerned. The time, cost and regularity of the process of importing goods and commodities were reduced by re-engineering the process and relying more on mechanization and modern technology, so that the average time for clearing customs data in seaports decreased by half to only 2.2 days, and in airports to 1.2 days, and the number of paper documents that must be attached in relation to import and export work decreased by 75%.<\/p>\n
Saeed Al-Bassami pointed to a number of successful initiatives that proved their usefulness and contributed to achieving this advanced position within a short period, including the initiative to clear containers within 24 hours in Saudi ports, reducing the period of stay of containers in ports from 14 days to less than 5 days, reducing the period of exemption of storage fees in ports from 10 days to 5 days, reducing the number of documents required for import from 12 documents to only two documents, in addition to providing electronic data submission and providing preclearance service for shipments, and linking all beneficiaries in one platform to complete all procedures electronically.<\/p>\n
