The Museums Authority announced today the launch of its strategy, which will guide the development of the museum sector in the Kingdom across all its components, organizational and operational processes, and support and empowerment of practitioners and investors, in order to achieve the objectives of the Ministry of Culture and the targets of the 2030 Vision in its cultural aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Stefano Carbone, the executive president of the Authority, explained that the strategy aims to achieve tangible development in a vital and important sector such as the museum sector through a vision, a mission, and specific objectives to develop the sector, enhance its content and programs, empower its staff, train them, and create the environment that develops and enhances Saudi museums to become real cultural platforms that provide diverse cognitive content and attract local and international audiences. The Museum Authority strategy is aligned with the national strategy for culture and the 2030 vision. The strategy identifies a value chain through four main axes: the social and economic output of the museum sector, its contribution to culture and the activities it will provide, its enabling tools, including talent development, financing, supportive partnerships, licenses, and regulatory regulations. In its strategy, it addresses the key role museums play in social and economic development by planning to add new and diverse classifications to museums around the Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The strategy also outlined the vision that will guide it and stipulated the establishment of national museums as inspiring destinations and catalysts for cultural and community participation for citizens, residents, and visitors. Its mission, which seeks to protect, promote, and present national heritage from around the world for study, education, and entertainment purposes, positions the Kingdom as a world-class cultural institution with the highest standards of quality. The strategic objectives included 12 goals: enriching institutions and collections, enhancing the value of existing heritage content, expanding the reach of museums by utilizing high-quality institutions, increasing museum visits among residents and tourists, improving the general budget of the sector, improving efficiency in spending, and establishing outstanding and contemporary museums in major cities and local museums in regions with rich and diverse heritage. Protecting and displaying collections according to the best standards, developing educational and recreational experiences that are accessible to all, attracting museum visitors, and seeking the recognition and appreciation due to it both within the Kingdom and abroad, as well as ensuring the The necessary financial support and incentives for the participation of the third sector and the establishment of partnerships to seize the opportunities offered by the museum sector and enable it to add value, as well as issuing licenses and regulations to ensure the implementation of comprehensive quality standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The strategy contributes to the development of existing museums such as the National Museum and the Al-Masmak Palace Museum; it will also work to establish a large number of museums around the Kingdom starting from Arar to Najran and from Abha to Dammam by 2024, in addition to several large and small museums in the coming years until 2030. The first museums to be established include the Tariq Abdulhakim Museum in Jeddah and the Black Gold Museum in Riyadh; a temporary venue for the Saudi Contemporary Art Museum will be allocated in the new Jakkas district of Deraa until the grand museum opens during the coming years, while the medium-term plans include the opening of pioneering museums such as the Royal Complex of Arts Museum, the Digital Arts Museum, and the Prince Mohammed bin Salman World Center for Calligraphy Museum.
