Shura Council member Saad Al-Otaibi emphasized the need for strict oversight of the quality of materials used in road and bridge construction to ensure they are suitable for the Kingdom\u2019s desert conditions, and to ensure the safety and security of road users. Council member Turki Al-Anzi called on the Ministry of Transportation, in partnership with the private sector, to study the possibility of localizing emerging technologies used in road paving and maintenance machinery and training personnel to operate them.
Council member Saad Al-Omari also called on the ministry to coordinate with relevant authorities to accelerate the inflow of foreign investment in the field of transportation and logistics services, noting that this would reduce dependence on government subsidies, create a strong and positive competitive environment, and attract international expertise and advanced technologies.
During the discussion of the annual report, Council member Mr. Fayhan bin Labda noted that creating dedicated lanes for trucks would ease the burden on main roads and reduce maintenance costs, He also proposed developing other modes of transportation, such as trains, in coordination with the relevant authorities, emphasizing the need for strict oversight of contractors and their adherence to the specified maintenance standards and specifications.
For her part, Council Member Dr. Haifa Al-Shammari called for conducting numerous research projects and field studies, and for directing research and development projects toward the localization of modern technologies and innovation, She also urged the Ministry not to view technology merely as a technical process at this stage, but rather to view it as a broader, comprehensive vision and as an institutional, organizational, and administrative process.
Council member Aisha Arishi proposed installing markers indicating flash flood water levels on roads that pass through valleys and lack bridges, in order to raise awareness of potential risks before they occur and to reduce incidents of vehicles veering off the road during flash floods, Meanwhile, Mohammed Al-Ali called on the ministry to develop a comprehensive plan with specific timelines for implementing safety requirements on all roads in the Kingdom to ensure\u2014God willing\u2014the safety of road users and to increase the role of the Ministry\u2019s regional branches in overseeing projects in their areas, while providing them with the necessary resources to do so.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
