In his opening remarks at the forum, His Royal Highness explained that the Riyadh Sustainability Strategy aims to \u201ctransform the city of Riyadh into one of the most sustainable cities in the world.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced that the Riyadh Sustainability Strategy, launched today by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City \u2014may God protect him\u2014includes the launch of more than 68 ambitious sustainability initiatives across five sectors: energy and climate change, air quality, water management, waste management, and biodiversity and natural areas. The strategy also aims to reduce the city\u2019s carbon emissions by 50%, in addition to injecting 346 billion Saudi riyals (92 billion U.S. dollars) into the city\u2019s sustainability initiatives and projects and stimulating the private sector with investment opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On this occasion, Mr. Fahd bin Abdulmohsen Al-Rashid, CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, who delivered a keynote address at the forum, expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to His Highness the Chairman of the Commission\u2019s Board of Directors for launching the Riyadh Sustainability Strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said, \u201cIn line with His Highness\u2019s ambitious vision, the strategy aims to make Riyadh one of the most sustainable and competitive cities in the world by 2030.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained: \u201cThe Crown Prince\u2019s directives always remind us that Riyadh\u2019s ambitious economic growth will not come at the expense of the environment and sustainability.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He highlighted the Authority\u2019s efforts to manage natural resources efficiently, noting that the environmental sustainability initiatives launched to support the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative\u2014including an investment of 30 billion riyals (8 billion dollars) to increase the treated water capacity from 11% to 100% and to make the most of every drop of water for irrigation and greening the capital, Riyadh, and an investment of approximately 56 billion riyals ($15 billion) in waste management projects to recycle waste as raw materials, reuse it, and convert it into energy at a rate of 94%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his speech, he explained that the strategy launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince to implement environmental sustainability projects will save the city\u2019s economy between 40 and 65 billion riyals (11 to 17.3 billion dollars) by improving infrastructure efficiency, reducing energy and water consumption, and lowering the health-related costs resulting from improved public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the impact of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City\u2019s projects on the city\u2019s lifestyle, he noted that upon completion of the King Abdulaziz Public Transportation Project in Riyadh\u2014which is the world\u2019s largest integrated public transportation project being developed in a single phase\u2014 the Royal Commission aims to increase residents\u2019 use of public transportation in the city from 5% to 20% through investments totaling 112.5 billion riyals ($30 billion), and to increase the proportion of electric vehicles in the city to 30% by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The King Abdulaziz Public Transportation Project is expected to reduce the number of daily trips by one million, resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1.5 million metric tons annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the authority is investing 30 billion riyals ($8 billion) in projects and initiatives to protect the environment, highlighting the achievements of the Green Riyadh Initiative\u2014one of Riyadh\u2019s four major projects\u2014as a key contributor to the Sustainable Development Goals. The Riyadh Green Initiative and the Riyadh Environmental Sustainability Initiative aim to plant a total of 15 million trees to increase the per capita share of green spaces from 1.7 to 28 square meters within the urban area by 2030, which will result in a reduction of the city\u2019s temperature by 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius\u2014that is, a reduction in the albedo of the ground surface by 8 to 15 degrees in areas of intensive afforestation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, more than 3,300 parks of varying sizes and 43 major parks will be provided in the city of Riyadh, with the aim of improving the quality of life there.
