In a review Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority<\/a><\/strong><\/span> The Board of Directors of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) issued a decision approving the Guaranteed Consumer Protection Standards (GCPS) Guide.<\/p>\n

The Authority obliged all service providers to apply the guide to ensure the achievement of the target level of service, and to determine the compensation due if the provider fails to meet the minimum required standards, in a framework that aims to preserve the rights of all parties, whether consumers or electricity service providers.<\/p>\n

8 criteria included in the new guide<\/h4>\n

She noted Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority<\/a><\/strong><\/span> The guide includes eight criteria: the duration of restoring electric service after payment, the duration of the electric service delivery or modification, the number of electric service interruptions and the time taken to restore it, the duration of service registration or cancellation for the actual consumer, in addition to the duration of processing billing complaints, notification before the planned outage, and finally services related to disconnecting electric service for non-payment at prohibited times and cases.<\/p>\n

The mechanism to compensate the consumer is done automatically by the electric service provider, through deduction from the monthly consumption bill or cash refund, so that the compensation is direct without the need for the consumer to submit a compensation request. The Authority monitors the commitment of service providers to implement the provisions of the guide on a regular basis, and if the service provider refuses to compensate, the consumer has the right to file a complaint with the Authority.<\/p>\n

The Authority explained that the issuance of the Guaranteed Standards Guide comes as an extension of the structural and organizational reforms of the electricity sector in the Kingdom, and contributes to incentivizing the service provider to upgrade the electrical service, according to the best standards in terms of quality, efficiency and reliability.<\/p>\n
