The closing ceremony of the King Salman Urban Charter Award in its first edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud\u2014may God protect him\u2014the capital city of Riyadh will host the closing ceremony of<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amlak.net.sa\/en\/57320\/\">The King Salman Al-Thani Charter Award<\/a> <\/strong>In its first edition, organized by the Architecture and Design Authority as part of the Authority\u2019s efforts to make the award an integral part of the strategy to implement the Charter initiative aimed at preserving urban heritage and authenticity rooted in the cultural and environmental legacy of various regions of the Kingdom, and to anticipate future developments in the urban landscape, in addition to playing a key role in encouraging projects that have adopted the Charter.<br \/>\nThe award, launched by the Authority, aims to <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plan.com.sa\/blog-post\">Architecture and Design<\/a><\/strong><\/span> The first edition, held in December 2023, was organized to recognize urban development projects that adhere to the standards of the Environmental and Urban Charter, with the aim of enhancing quality of life and supporting innovation and sustainability in the Kingdom, based on the adoption of the Charter, and to help motivate practitioners and specialists to produce high-quality results.<br \/>\nThe award aims to contribute to achieving the Charter\u2019s objectives by promoting outstanding urban projects. It comprises three categories: the \u201cBuilt Projects\u201d category for project owners and design firms; the \u201cUnbuilt Projects\u201d category for design firms; and the (Student Projects) for university students, subject to the detailed requirements for each category, with entries evaluated according to clear criteria.<br \/>\nAnd it translates as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amlak.net.sa\/en\/57325\/\">King Salman Urban Charter<\/a><\/strong> Announced in November 2021, the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud\u2014may God protect him\u2014to establish a contemporary national urban development approach that strengthens the national urban identity.<br \/>\nThe launch of the Charter initiative was accompanied by exhibitions and informational sessions about the Charter, as well as numerous other activities and public forums on architecture and design in various cities and regions across the Kingdom, in addition to participation in several international events and occasions.<br \/>\nThe award seeks to achieve several key objectives. The first is to promote recognition of outstanding local projects that embody \u201dauthenticity, continuity, a human-centered approach, livability, innovation, and sustainability,\u201c and second, to encourage companies, practitioners, and students to incorporate the values of the Charter into their work and outputs.<br \/>\nThe award\u2019s strategic vision is to raise awareness of the Charter\u2019s impact on the architecture and urban design sectors and to improve quality of life by encouraging innovation and sustainability, as well as supporting talent and individual contributions in the urban sector, targeting individual architects and designers, owners of urban development projects, architectural firms and offices, and university students.<br \/>\nThe award process spanned six months and consisted of four stages, beginning with the participation and registration phase for the various categories of the award, followed by the screening and evaluation phase for the entries based on the announced criteria and conditions, followed by the nomination and judging phase for eligible entries that passed the evaluation and met the required criteria and conditions, conducted by a jury composed of local and international experts and specialists in the fields of architecture and design to select the winning projects, culminating in the closing ceremony to announce the winning projects, celebrate them, and honor them with the Charter Award.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The King Salman Al-Thani Charter Award<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The Architecture and Design Authority announced the shortlist of architectural projects nominated for the King Salman Urban Charter Award, which included a selection of pioneering projects chosen based on criteria derived from the Charter\u2019s values.<br \/>\nThe projects were categorized under the award\u2019s main tracks, including the \u201cBuilt Projects,\u201d which targets outstanding urban environments that have been designed, constructed, and put into operation, while the second category focuses on \u201cUnbuilt Projects,\u201d which includes designs for outstanding urban environments for projects that have not yet been physically constructed, The third category is limited to \u201cUniversity Student Projects\u201d by creative students in the sector, with this category dedicated to their graduation projects that achieve urban excellence.<br \/>\nThe Authority explained that the \u201cCompleted Projects\u201d category includes eleven projects nominated for the award, including: the headquarters of the General Administration of the Social Development Bank in Riyadh; the Najdara Resort project; the Al-Mukranis Tower; the Riyadh Convention Center; the Al-Gharaa Mosque in Medina; and the SABIC building in Jubail.<br \/>\nThe list also includes the King Abdulaziz International Cultural Center (Ithra) in Dhahran, the Banyan Tree Al-Ula, operated by Al-Ula Development Company, the Dar Al-Rahmaniyah building at the Abdulrahman Al-Sudairi Cultural Center in Al-Ghat Governorate, the Grand Mosque at the King Abdullah Financial District, and the list concludes with the Innovation Tower at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.<br \/>\nThe category of unbuilt projects included four notable projects: the Abha International Airport project, followed by the Ratal Mosque project in Dammam, as well as the Sports Track project and the Mihrab project in Medina.<br \/>\nAs for the university student projects track, the shortlist for this track included eight nominated projects, namely: the \u201cAbaq\u201d project designed by student Huda Al-Qahtani at Prince Sultan University, and \u201cThe Hub\u201d project designed by student Abdulrahman Al-Shahri at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University, in addition to the \u201cKo Rise,\u201d designed by student Khulud Al-Harthi at Prince Sultan University, and the \u201cC-Loop\u201d project, designed by student Faisal Rabie at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University.<br \/>\nThe list also included the \u201cAl-Ula Historical Museum\u201d project, designed by student Khadija Al-Kaf of Dar Al-Hekma University, and the \u201cWaj Historical Museum,\u201d designed by student Ahmed Al-Talhi at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University;
