Issued General Authority for Statistics<\/a><\/strong> Today's statistical bulletin Foreign investment<\/a><\/strong> annual direct for 2023 in the Kingdom. According to the results of the bulletin, the total balance of Foreign investment<\/a><\/strong> Direct (897,347) billion SAR at the end of 2023, an increase of 13.4 percent compared to what it was at the end of 2022, which amounted to 791 billion SAR.<\/p>\n

The results revealed that the total inflows of FDI in the Kingdom amounted to SAR (95,983) million in 2023, a decrease of 19% in 2023 compared to 2022, which amounted to SAR 96 billion in 2023.<\/p>\n

The total outflows of FDI in the Kingdom amounted to SAR 10,470 million in 2023. A decrease of 44% compared to 2022.<\/p>\n

It showed that the net FDI inflows in the Kingdom (513.85) million Saudi riyals in 2023. .<\/p>\n

Manufacturing activities achieved the highest contribution to the total FDI stock at the end of 2023 with a value of SAR 259 billion and a contribution rate of 29% of the total stock, followed by wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with a total of SAR 135 billion and a contribution rate of 15%, then financial and insurance activities with a balance of SAR 112 billion and a contribution rate of 12%.<\/p>\n

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is one that reflects a long-term relationship and lasting interest of economic entities residing in an economy other than the Saudi economy, which means that the foreign investor individually - or a group of foreign investors - owns 10% or more of the voting power of the shareholders' rights, which means that the foreign investor individually owns 10% or more of the voting power of the shareholders' rights.<\/p>\n

According to FDI statistics published by the Ministry of Investment and the General Authority for Statistics, the main FDI indicators have witnessed a remarkable rise since the launch of \u201cVision 2030\u201d and its various strategic plans, including the National Investment Strategy (NIS), with the NIS exceeding its ambitious targets for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.
\nThe main results of the 2023 FDI indicators are as follows:
\n- FDI inflows (total) in 2023 recorded about 96 billion riyals, exceeding the National Investment Strategy target of 83 billion riyals by 16%.
\n- The ratio of FDI inflows to GDP reached 2.4% in 2023, realizing the target in the National Investment Strategy.
\n- FDI inflows between 2022 and 2023 (after excluding the extraordinary Aramco deal) grew by around 50%.
\n- The FDI stock in 2023 grew by 13% compared to 2022, recording nearly 900 billion riyals.
\nThe published statistics confirmed the effectiveness of the vision programs, various sectoral strategies and ambitious initiatives, including the National Investment Strategy, which aims to raise the attractiveness of the investment environment in the Kingdom and attract more quality foreign investments from around the world. The Kingdom has achieved advanced positions at the level of the G20 countries, ranking 11th in terms of net FDI inflows and 16th in terms of FDI stock for 2023, and the Kingdom ranked second in terms of the growth rate of net FDI inflows and fourth in terms of the growth rate of net FDI inflows.
\nLooking at the performance of FDI by economic activities for the year 2023, according to statistics published by the Ministry of Investment, the manufacturing activity ranks first among economic activities in terms of foreign investment balance by the end of 2023, and ranks first in terms of inflows and net inflows for the same year.
\nOn the side of the countries investing in the Kingdom according to the nationality of the dominant parent country, the United States topped the list of countries in the world in terms of FDI balance for the year 2023, with 202 billion riyals, equivalent to 23% of the total FDI balance in the Kingdom, while the United Arab Emirates comes first in the world in terms of FDI inflows, with flows estimated at 13 billion riyals, which constitutes about 14% of the total inflows in the Kingdom for the same year.
\nSince the announcement of \u201cVision 2030\u201d in 2016, foreign investments in the Kingdom have witnessed a remarkable development, as FDI indicators in 2023 indicate the following:
\n- Comparing the three-year average before the launch of Vision 2030 for the years (2013-2015), which amounted to SAR 43 billion, and the average for the last three years (2021-2023), the average became about SAR 112 billion, so FDI inflows have almost tripled.
\n-The value of FDI inflows increased by more than 240% in 2023 compared to 2017, rising from 28 billion riyals in 2017 to 96 billion riyals in 2023.
\n- The value of FDI outflows decreased by about 60% in 2023 compared to 2017, from 24 billion riyals in 2017 to 10 billion riyals in 2023.
\n- The value of net FDI inflows increased by more than 2000% in 2023 compared to 2017, from about 4 billion riyals in 2017 to 86 billion riyals in 2023.
\n- The FDI stock increased by about 80% in 2023, from 502 billion riyals in 2017 to nearly 900 billion riyals in 2023.
\n- The share of FDI inflows in the FDI stock increased from 6% in 2017 to 11% in 2023.
\n- The share of FDI outflows in the FDI stock was reduced from 5% in 2017 to 1% in 2023.
\nH.E. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment, explained that the Kingdom's FDI data for 2023 convincingly reflects the success of Vision 2030 in diversifying and growing the economy, creating a world-class investment environment, and providing unprecedented opportunities for investors.
\nHis Excellency added: \u201cThese detailed figures show that the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the National Investment Strategy (NIS) are succeeding in attracting FDI across the Kingdom for a wide range of economic activities and from different countries of the world.\u201d.
\nHis Excellency stated: \u201cAs a result of the positive shifts in FDI in the Kingdom, we expect to see more investors in the Saudi market to capitalize on the Kingdom's economic and investment strength, the stability of its policies and long-term economic vision, solid fiscal and monetary fundamentals, and its strategic location, which is a conduit to access growth opportunities across the Middle East and beyond.\u201d.
