Mr. Yasser bin Othman Al-Rumayyan, Governor of Public Investment Fund<\/strong><\/a> And the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Aramco, at the ninth edition of the \u201cFuture Investment Initiative<\/a><\/strong>\u201d which is being held at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh under the theme \u201cThe Key to Prosperity,\u201d he discussed the fund\u2019s development from its inception to the present day during his remarks.<\/p>\n

Public Investment Fund<\/span><\/h4>\n

He explained that the fund was established in 1971 with a developmental vision aimed at supporting the building of the national economy and promoting sustainable development. In its early days, it focused on contributing to the establishment of major companies such as \u201cSABIC\u201d and the Saudi Railway Company, in addition to supporting the banking sector and providing loans to industrial projects that contributed to economic growth during that period.<\/p>\n

Al-Ramayan noted that 2015 marked a major turning point in the fund\u2019s history, as His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, may God protect him, adopted a developmental vision aimed at transforming the fund into a major economic engine for the Kingdom. At that time, the fund\u2019s assets were valued at approximately $150 billion, whereas today they are nearly three times that figure, as the fund nears its goal of reaching $1 trillion in assets by the end of this year.<\/p>\n

He said that this transformation required rebuilding the fund\u2019s institutional structure by attracting talent, developing systems and procedures, and strengthening governance, in addition to studying and analyzing global best practices for sovereign wealth funds to define the fund\u2019s position and role in the global economy. He also noted that these steps have contributed to the fund\u2019s journey toward continuous development.<\/p>\n

Number of Employees at the Public Investment Fund<\/span><\/h4>\n

In 2015, the Fund had fewer than 40 employees, but today that number has exceeded 3,000, reflecting a major transformation in the Fund\u2019s structure and capabilities. This significant expansion coincided with the opening of Fund offices in global cities such as New York, London, Paris, Beijing, and Shanghai, as well as regional offices in Egypt, Jordan, Oman, and Bahrain.<\/p>\n

Al-Ramian emphasized that the Fund\u2019s work culture has been directly influenced by His Highness the Crown Prince\u2019s vision and his approach to rapid achievement and high efficiency, which has become a general approach across all government and executive sectors.<\/p>\n

He also noted that the fund is currently working to finalize its new strategy for the period from 2026 to 2030, which aims to strengthen the fund\u2019s role as an investor and further diversify its assets by 2040, thereby strengthening its position as one of the key drivers for achieving the goals of the Kingdom\u2019s Vision 2030.<\/p>\n

He added that the actual phase of development within the fund began after it was restructured to align with the strategic objectives it seeks to achieve, noting that the fund\u2019s first strategy, launched in 2017, was aimed at stimulating economic sectors that were underutilized at the time.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the fund had identified 10 key sectors as part of its strategy, and that the first phase of this strategy ran through the end of 2020, with the next phase beginning in 2021 and continuing through the end of this year.<\/p>\n

In closing, Al-Ramayan emphasized that setting the goals of the Kingdom\u2019s Vision 2030 was not a solo effort, but rather the result of joint cooperation among various ministries and government and private institutions, which worked together to set clear goals to be achieved by 2030.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
