Announced Royal Commission for Riyadh City<\/a><\/strong>The awarding of the project to design, implement and realize the new extension of the Riyadh train<\/a><\/strong> By adding 8.4 kilometers to the current route, it extends from King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate development project, including five new stations, to complement the public transportation system in the capital and enhance the link between vital areas, residential communities, and educational, cultural, and health centers.
This project comes within a continuous path of development witnessed by the city of Riyadh during the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God bless him - and with the continuous support and guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, as an extension of the public transportation project in the city, which was opened by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in November 2024, making the train the backbone of the public transportation network in the capital.
H.E. Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Sultan, Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers and CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, said that the Red Line Extension project comes to enhance the public transportation network in the city and complements the efforts of the Commission in developing a sustainable urban transportation system that connects the vital centers, residential communities and cultural and educational attractions in the city, pointing out that the project keeps pace with the increasing demand from the residents and visitors of the capital to use public transportation since the project began operating in late 2024, with the number of passengers exceeding 173 million since its opening, which reflects the community's confidence in the efficiency of the project.
The new expansion includes 7.1 kilometers of deep underground tunnels and 1.3 kilometers of elevated tracks. It also includes new stations, two of them at King Saud University, where the first serves the medical city and health colleges, while the second serves the university lobby, in addition to three stations in Diriyah, one of which will be the link point for the seventh track in the future, and is planned to be completed in about six years.
The project contributes to linking the public transportation network to the main destinations of the city, as the stations located within the Diriyah Gate Development Project are connected to a number of major destinations and landmarks, such as: The project is expected to contribute to the reduction of the number of cars by 150,000 vehicles per day, which enhances the provision of various options and flexible alternatives for access and mobility to and from Diriyah.
