Sources at the Ministry of Justice revealed that the number of mortgaged properties documented by notaries in Saudi Arabia reached about 40 thousand properties since the beginning of the current Hijri year, recording an increase of more than 300 percent compared to the same period last year, which amounted to about 9,500 thousand. The sources said that residential properties accounted for about 70 percent of the mortgaged properties. Notaries in the Riyadh region topped the number of operations for mortgaged properties with 7,750 mortgaged properties, taking the largest share of nearly 19.4 percent of the total mortgaged properties, followed by the Makkah region with 6,328 properties, and the Eastern Province with 6,000 mortgaged properties.
The sources said that residential properties accounted for about 70 percent of mortgaged properties.
Qassim region recorded 2807 mortgaged properties, followed by Madinah region with 2493 properties, Asir region with 1751 mortgaged properties, Hail with 1039 properties, followed by the Northern Borders with 1077 mortgaged properties, Tabuk with 938 mortgaged properties, followed by Jazan with 821 mortgaged properties, and Al-Jouf with 821 mortgaged properties.

The number of mortgaged properties registered in Al-Baha is estimated at 519 since the beginning of the current Hijri year, while Najran is the lowest with 265 properties.
