The company's founding contract was signed by the representatives of the contributing entities and companies, namely: The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (Al-Ahsa Municipality), the Public Investment Fund, the Public Pension Agency, the Agricultural Development Fund, Saudi Real Estate Company, Peninsula Group, Astra Group, Al-Shula Holding Group, Al-Rashed Trading and Contracting Company, Abdul Latif Al-Arfaj & Brothers Holding Company, Nama Real Estate Company, East Development Company for Industry and Contracting, Al-Sadoun Company for Industry and Contracting, Al-Yasin Agricultural Company, Ahsana Tourism and Recreation, Al-Jawad Trading, Industry and Construction, Prince Salman Center for Disability Research and Disabled Children's Association
Preparing tourist sites
His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Eastern Province, delivered a speech in which he stressed that the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and His Royal Highness Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister, are keen to develop and prepare tourist sites in all regions of the Kingdom and develop all tourist sites to open fields of tourism investment and open great job opportunities for Saudi youth who have passed the stage of hobby to professionalism in the tourism field.
His Highness added that the Uqair development project embodies the leadership's interest in developing all regions of the Kingdom economically through various projects that benefit the country and the citizen.
His Highness praised the efforts of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz to promote domestic tourism, develop its services, and support tourism investment, which relies on such large economic projects, expressing his appreciation to all government agencies and private sector companies that participated in the project.
Domestic Tourism
For his part, HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, said in his speech after signing the company's establishment contract that the Uqair Development Project - which is the first integrated tourism destination contributed by the state - has received the directives and support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and HRH Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and their emphasis on focusing on domestic tourism and its development to contribute to providing job opportunities for citizens and motivating citizens to stay in their country by providing infrastructure.
Project area
The area of the Uqair development project is (100) million square meters, with 15 kilometers of beaches on the Arabian Gulf coast, and the project is only 70 kilometers from Dammam and Hofuf, and 370 kilometers from Riyadh.
A number of government agencies are working on the Uqair development project in solidarity with the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, namely the Ministries of: Municipal and Rural Affairs (Al Ahsa Municipality), Water and Electricity, Trade and Industry, the General Authority for Investment, and other relevant authorities. The project will serve citizens and residents of the Eastern Province, Riyadh and other regions of the Kingdom and visitors from the Arab Gulf countries. The project, with its integrated elements and multiple services, will provide tourism options that suit the requirements and privacy of the Saudi family, meet the recreational needs of youth, develop tourism services and events, in addition to conferences, exhibitions and other economic activities, and is expected to contribute in all its development stages to provide more than ninety thousand job opportunities.
Project facilities
The project includes many elements, most notably tourism, cultural, economic and recreational facilities, including : Water parks - car centers - water sports centers - amusement parks - desert resorts - heritage and marine museums, including the Museum of Marine Sciences and the Museum of the Historic Port of Uqair - villages and shopping centers - water sports marinas - yacht club - exhibition and conference center - markets for artistic products and handicrafts - development of archaeological sites at Uqair Beach, in addition to the headquarters of other government services (security, health, educational and tourism), and will be studied to connect Uqair with Riyadh by high-speed rail and establish a tourist airport based on economic feasibility.
The project is expected to contribute to all stages of development of the project.
