<Four businessmen submitted their candidacy papers on Wednesday to compete for seats on the board of directors of the Eastern Chamber in its seventeenth session, before the closing of the door of candidacy next Sunday, bringing the number of candidates to nine after the past days witnessed a cautious calm that resulted in the submission of only five candidates within ten days.
Yesterday, Abdulrahman Al-Rashed, the current president of the Eastern Chamber, submitted his candidacy papers to compete, according to a previous statement published by «Al-Youm» on the seat of the Chamber's presidency for the third consecutive session, and Abdulhakim Al-Omar Al-Khalidi, Ali Al-Srour and Faisal Al-Sabti Al-Ghamdi submitted their candidacy papers for the upcoming elections, whose date is expected to be announced by the technical committee for the elections in the next few days. In the past few days, Abdulrahman Al-Attishan, Abdul Mohsen Al-Faraj, Ahmed Al-Dosari, Ghadran Saeed Ghadran and Abdul Aziz Al-Othman submitted their candidacy papers, while the list has so far witnessed the absence of businesswomen from running for the next session of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Chamber. The sources confirmed that many businessmen often submit their candidacy papers on the last day after full clarity about the identity of the candidates, and expected that the elections this year will witness heated competition amid anticipation from the business community in the region, which has witnessed an advanced commercial movement during the past years, in addition to its importance as an important region in the world in the field of oil and energy.
It is noteworthy that the current voting system gives the Chamber's subscribers the right to vote for only one of the candidates from the categories of industrialists or traders, which increases the intensity of competition and reduces the impact of blocs and alliances.
