The scope of the expansion project for the Grand Mosque, initiated by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz—may God have mercy on him—has reached 63% of the project's total scope original size, following the completion of 400 million man-hours of work on the expansion.

Engineer Mohammed Rajab Samakri, representative of the Ministry of Finance and its chief engineer, explained that the increase in the size of the Mataf from 35,000 to 107,000, noting to the unique nature of the site, which is visited by 800 million people annually and receives 150,000 visitors per hour, a situation that required intensified efforts to address the challenges posed by such crowds, He added that of the 400 million hours worked, 107 million were spent on the main site and 298 million on the northern expansion, which involved the removal of 13 million cubic meters of rock, the demolition of 4,882 buildings, and the construction of 15,000 restrooms, with work underway to increase this number.

Engineer Samakri praised the work of Saudi female engineers on the expansion project, noting their supervision of technical works, decorations, and copperwork, He highlighted job opportunities for Saudi female engineers in the safety sector to work on the expansion project. Al-Samkari also praised the Saudi youth who have demonstrated their excellence, noting that the number of technical engineering personnel reached 951, He said they had sent 38 young Saudis to Germany for training in rock tunnel construction, and they are currently working on the project after completing their training.
