The guide aims to strike a balance between the functional and aesthetic aspects of directional signs by specifying requirements and standards for dimensions, locations, designs, lighting, and content, thereby enhancing their clarity, preserves the quality of the urban landscape, and enhances the visual experience for residents and visitors.

The guide is intended for shop owners, property owners, designers, manufacturers, and government and regulatory agencies, serving as a unified reference for the regulation of signage, clarifying technical and regulatory requirements and ensuring the integration of signs with architectural elements and the urban identity of each area.
The guide also includes a classification of urban areas and the types of directional signs appropriate for each zone, as well as lighting regulations, technical specifications, and the relationship between signage and architectural facades, thereby helping to reduce visual clutter, improve the quality of the urban environment, and enhance the city’s appeal.

The Secretariat emphasized that the publication of the guide is an extension of its initiatives aimed at developing the urban landscape and improving quality of life, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and that it strengthens the visual identity of Madinah, and enhance the experience of its residents and visitors.
