Engineer Abdullatif Al-Binan, Director General of the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage and Secretary of the Tourism Development Council in the Eastern Province, revealed that the next two years will witness the launch of about (62) hotel projects, including (24) projects for the category of five stars, and (29) projects for the category of four stars, which will add to the qualitative leap in the tourism accommodation sector by growing the number of hotels from (51) hotels to more than (118) hotels, including (13) five-star hotels and more than (800) furnished housing units.
The General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage in the Eastern Province revealed that domestic tourism annually pumps more than thirteen billion riyals, as it receives more than seven million local and expatriate trips, and in this direction Engineer Al-Binan stressed that the Eastern Province is one of the main tourist destinations in the Kingdom, and by virtue of its privileged location next to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries occupies a prominent place in the map of domestic tourism.

The number of festivals in the Eastern Province in the summer of this year amounted to more than (10) festivals, containing more than (94) major and diverse events in various governorates of the region, the most important of which are the celebrations and events of the Eastern Chamber, the Eastern Summer Festival of the region's secretariat, the Saitek Festival, the Jubail Festival, the Youth Festival in Al-Ahsa, the Qatif Festival, in addition to the Safwa Entertainment and Cultural Festival, indicating that the Executive Committee of the Tourism Development Council is working to adopt an events strategy containing the calendar of events for more than (20) annual and five years, with the aim of maximizing the geographical diversity of the region in context of development goals.
Engineer Al-Bunyan explained that the Eastern Province was chosen to launch the Kingdom's summer this year to be the center of the festivals and its beating heart, due to its prominent tourism status, as this summer comes full of many events, paragraphs and multiple entertainment activities, which extends for about four months, including the blessed month of Ramadan, and the Eid Al-Fitr and Al-Adha, which gave those in charge of this year's festivals in various governorates in the region sufficient time to organize diverse, attractive and new events, capable of attracting all ages and groups under the title (Oriental Destination).
