Housing Minister Majid Al-Hogail revealed that the fundamental solution to the housing problem lies in the Ministry of Housing working to provide 9,000 housing units per month.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Real Estate Industry Forum organized by King Saud University, Al-Hogail explained that the current focus is on the homeownership rate rather than the number of housing units available, noting that recent statistics from the Electricity Company confirmed that more than 400,000 housing units are available annually. He emphasized that the ministry is striving to play a technical role in ensuring the availability of housing units for all income brackets, rather than for specific segments, as was previously the case with higher-income earners.
Al-Hogail said that the Ministry will receive approximately 2.6 million applications over the next 15 years, due to population growth and the entry of new segments of young people preparing to marry; this will cause a significant increase in demand for housing.
