A recent report revealed an increase in the number of Saudi households that own their homes, with the total number across all provinces reaching approximately 2.16 million, representing 63.1% of the total number of households, compared to approximately 1.17 million households renting their homes, representing 34.2%.

The specialized report issued by the General Authority for Statistics indicated that the percentage of households owning their homes in the Kingdom stands at 49.8% after excluding dwellings built from materials such as mud, stone, brick, and concrete blocks, with a total of approximately 1.13 million individuals residing in them, representing 54.9%, noting that the number of households residing in employer-provided housing is approximately 63,600, representing 1.8% of the total number of households, while the number of households residing in housing under other categories not specified by the report totaling 22,900 households, or 0.67%.
Mecca Has the Highest Rate of Homeownership
Homeownership in Makkah al-Mukarramah stood at approximately 519,100 households, representing about 24% of the total number of homeowners in Saudi Arabia, while in Riyadh, 506,800 households—representing 23.4%—owned their homes, and the Eastern Province had approximately 240,700 homeowner households, accounting for 11.1%, while the percentage in Madinah stood at 6.9%, with 150,900 homeowning households. The Northern Border Region had the lowest homeownership rate among the Kingdom’s administrative regions, with approximately 25,800 homeowner households, representing 1.19% of the total number of owner-occupied homes.
Northern Border Region Has Fewest Renting Households
In contrast, the report indicated that the number of households renting their homes in Makkah was also the highest compared to other cities, registering approximately 314,600 households, representing about 26.8% of the total number of households renting their homes, Riyadh ranked second with approximately 287,000 households, representing 24.4%, followed by the Eastern Province with approximately 222,100 households renting their homes, accounting for 18.9%, As for the Madinah region, its share was 7.19%, with 84,200 households renting their homes, The Northern Border Region also had the lowest number among the Kingdom’s administrative regions, with approximately 10,300 renting households, representing 0.87% of the total number of rental dwellings occupied by Saudi households nationwide.
