The National Committee for Cement Companies at the Council of Chambers of Commerce plans to reduce cement companies’ production to approximately 12 % in order to increase efficiency and improve product quality by halting production on some lines.
In this regard, Jihad bin Abdulaziz Al-Rashid, chairman of the committee, explained that the cement market is currently oversupplied, prompting companies to reevaluate their production operations.
The monthly report issued by Yamama Cement Company showed that sales by cement companies operating in Saudi Arabia fell to 4.09 million metric tons in February 2017, compared to 5.44 million metric tons during the same month of 2016, representing a decline of 24.89%., The report indicated that cement inventories rose to 1.07 million metric tons in February 2017, compared to 906,000 metric tons during the same month of the previous year, an increase of 18.2%.
