Riyadh Municipality Releases Digital Map of Riyadh with World-Class Specifications

The Riyadh Municipality has released a new version of the wall map of Riyadh, measuring (250 cm × 196 cm) using the base map, which includes layers (development boundaries, municipal and neighborhood boundaries and names, major roads and streets, important landmarks, and more) The new map is characterized by the ease of reading the information on it, as the downtown area has been enlarged in the corner of the map to facilitate reading the information within it, and tables have been included showing the neighborhoods distributed across the municipalities) The Riyadh Municipality has also published paper map guides in both Arabic and English in various sizes. The guide, produced using geographic information systems and the base map with layers (municipalities, neighborhoods, streets, classification of landmarks, land parcels, their uses, and more).
Engineer Amer bin Batal Al-Nataifat, Director General of Surveying and Property at the Riyadh Municipality, explained that, based on the directives of the Mayor of Riyadh, Engineer Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Al-Mubarak, the electronic map portal for the city of Riyadh was launched through the administration’s website (http://www.nnalriyadh.com), which serves citizens and employees of the Riyadh Region Municipality by allowing them to view maps, conduct searches and measurements, print reports, and perform all standard functions available through geographic information systems. This includes (15) sub-municipalities, (174) neighborhoods, (1,817) plans, (904,663) plots of land in approved plans, (33,466) streets, and all major landmarks in the city of Riyadh. The applications also contain more than (155,000) activities classified into (government agencies – hospitals and clinics – markets and shopping centers – universities, institutes, and schools – social and sports clubs – religious services – gardens and parks – hotels – industrial zones – restaurants – historic areas – public services – banks and currency exchange centers). The Riyadh Municipality has also made all this information available through the production of CDs containing the digital map of Riyadh.
As part of its commitment to technological development, the Riyadh Municipality has released a mobile app that allows users to view the map of Riyadh produced by the Riyadh Municipality, inquire about land plots and plans using plot numbers and plan numbers, and determine directions to them.
In addition to the ability to search for landmarks and activities by category (municipalities and neighborhoods – hospitals and clinics – parks and gardens – government departments and agencies – mosques – industrial zones – restaurants – historical and tourist areas – hotels – universities, institutes, and schools – banks and currency exchange centers – public services – social and sports clubs – markets and shopping centers) and determine the route to them.
The Wasif service also includes a barcode scanner for street signs and the ability to search for and inquire about addresses using (neighborhood name – street name – property number) and determining the route to reach them. The “Waseef” app, which runs on Android and iPhone (iOS) devices, has been uploaded to the Play Store and App Store and is available free of charge to users.
