The Municipality of Al-Jubail announced the imposition of strict penalties to curb the phenomenon of littering and the abandonment of construction debris, as well as requiring building owners to submit a statement from the landfill operator detailing the quantities of waste and construction debris that have been disposed of.

The mayor, Engineer Nayef bin Faisal Al-Duwais, explained that the urban expansion the province is experiencing has coincided with a failure by most building owners to remove construction debris or arrange for its transport, instead leaving it on the streets or piling it up on land adjacent to buildings, which has marred the general appearance, noting that the municipality required building owners to submit a statement from the sanitation department, detailing the quantities of waste and construction debris that had been disposed of before allowing electricity to be connected.

He noted that a large-scale campaign has been launched to clear vacant lots of debris in all neighborhoods, which will continue for two months to remove debris, rubble, and demolition waste from vacant lots and the province’s streets, involving more than 35 inspectors and supervisors.
