The 12th edition of the Middle East DryMix Conference kicked off Sunday at the University of Sharjah, sponsored by the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Research Academy, under the theme “Toward the Sustainability of Construction and Building Materials,” in the presence of the President of the University of Sharjah, Prof. Dr. Hamid Majoul Al-Nuaimi, Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Hamid, Director of the Sharjah Research Academy, and Prof. Dr. Mufid Al-Samarrai, Senior Advisor to the Sharjah Research Academy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Middle East DryMix Conference, with the participation of experts and specialists in the field of construction and sustainability from various countries around the world. The conference will discuss numerous issues, ideas, initiatives, and proposals aimed at advancing the field of construction and sustainability.
In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Hamid, Director of the Sharjah Research Academy, welcomed the attendees and participants, and expressed his hope that the conference would achieve its objectives and serve as a key platform for discussions on sustainable construction and the UAE’s leading role in the region in this regard, given the commitment of institutions, agencies, and officials to applying the highest standards and practices in sustainability.
For his part, the President of the University of Sharjah, Prof. Dr. Hamid Majoul Al-Nuaimi, welcomed the attendees and participants and expressed his hope that they would produce outcomes and recommendations that would support existing achievements in this field and bring about qualitative advancements in the world of sustainable construction.
He noted that the experts and specialists participating in the conference are discussing numerous issues that contribute to development and the reduction of financial costs, particularly in construction, building, maintenance, and restoration, as well as minimizing the side effects and negative impacts associated with concrete manufacturing, which results in a certain degree of air pollution. Participants are working to find ways to reduce these impacts by providing a sustainable and smart alternative to limit air pollutants.
Dr. Mufid Al-Samarrai said that this conference, now in its twelfth edition, embodies the progress and modern development of the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, and the United Arab Emirates in general.He noted that the conference, across its various sessions, focuses on numerous topics in the field of construction and building materials, taking into account issues of sustainability, as well as the region’s climate and environmental conditions—such as humidity and high temperatures—and how to address them at various levels and in different fields to ensure greater durability and longevity in construction.
