The value of non-performing loans at the Real Estate Development Fund stood at approximately 30 billion riyals at the end of the second half of 2017. The Ministry of Housing stated that net lending totaled approximately 94 billion riyals over the past ten years (2006–2016).

The ministry added that the failure of some beneficiaries to repay certain loans from the fund within the specified period led to a financial imbalance in the fund. It confirmed that, according to data from the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority regarding specialized lending institutions, loans disbursed by the Real Estate Development Fund over the past five years (2012–2016) accounted for 37 % of the total loans disbursed by all government-owned specialized lending institutions combined, amounting to 259.4 billion riyals.

She noted that in 2015, the value of loans disbursed by the Fund reached a record high of over 27 billion riyals, bringing the average annual net lending to 21.8 billion riyals during the period from 2010 to 2016.
