The Real Estate Development Fund’s current investments in the financial markets total approximately 21 billion riyals, Khalid Al-Amoudi, the fund’s general supervisor, explained that the fund uses the profits from these investments to pay interest on loans to individuals, noting that Saudi Arabia is the only country that offers a 100% dividend payout to a large segment of its citizens.
Al-Amoudi confirmed that mechanisms for collecting these loans are currently being developed to increase the collection capacity to 6 billion riyals annually from previous loans, explaining that the fund is working with experts and consultants to take all necessary measures to ensure that no loans default in the future.
He explained that the previous financing mechanism was linked to oil prices, and the current situation requires changing the mechanism to ensure continued financing, noting that several months ago, oil prices fluctuated between $38 and $40, and if the fund had continued with its previous system, support would have been limited to only 4,000 families.
