Ministry of Commerce conducts more than 23,000 inspections during Hajj season, seizes 1,737 violating establishments

Inspection teams from the Ministry of Commerce and Investment conducted more than 23,000 inspection visits to commercial establishments and retail outlets in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, and the Holy Sites during this year’s Hajj season, 1439 AH.

The Ministry’s inspection teams inspected 20,801 commercial establishments and retail outlets selling food and consumer products, including retail outlets, bakeries, refrigerated trucks, and mobile supply vehicles operating in the holy sites, The inspection tours also included checks on 1,001 commercial establishments selling gold, jewelry, and precious metals; 800 establishments selling vehicle tires and providing oil change services; and 465 petroleum service stations.

During this year’s Hajj season, the inspections resulted in the seizure and confiscation of 1.3 million food and consumer goods, as well as the imposition of statutory penalties on violators. Additionally, 1,737 immediate commercial violation citations were issued.
The seizures included 93,066 products that did not meet specifications, 1.1 million adulterated products, 147,873 expired items, and 4,866 products in violation of trademark regulations.
