Amlak – Exclusive: Citing precise figures and data, Housing Minister Majed Al-Hogail revealed that 600,000 families were served during 2019 and 2020, listing the most significant achievements of the past year and outlining the goals for the new year. Al-Hogail explained that the ministry continues to pursue its strategic goal of facilitating families" acquisition of their first home; Ministry statistics indicate that 106,000 families actually moved into their homes in 2019, while we aim to increase that number to between 130,000 and 140,000 families in 2020. Al-Hogail explained that the number of families benefiting from mortgage support rose from an average of 20,000 to 165,000, indicating an adequate supply of housing units that matches purchasing power, Al-Hogail noted that 90,000 plots of land were handed over to beneficiaries, in addition to 285 charitable associations delivering approximately 14,000 housing units.
He added that the ministry is focusing on stimulating supply in the housing market, noting that 350,000 to 400,000 housing units enter the market annually, some for ownership and others for rent. He explained that there are three factors that ensure the efficiency of supply and demand: the speed of obtaining permits, regulatory flexibility, and the availability of development capacity and access to financing.
