The Services Committee of the Shura Council called on the Council to approve its recommendation regarding the annual report of the Ministry of Housing, which is scheduled for discussion at next Monday’s session, and stipulated that “the possibility of allowing unmarried male and female citizens aged 25 and older to apply for one of the Ministry’s housing options should be studied.” (Residential Real Estate)

The committee justified its recommendations by citing population surveys conducted by the Statistics Authority, which showed that the percentage of unmarried men exceeded 41.1% of the male population, and among females, the percentage of those who have never married exceeded 32.1%. The Shura Committee considers these percentages to be high and notes that one of the most important requirements for marriage is the availability of suitable housing. To facilitate marriage for this group, particularly for those over 25 years of age, the committee emphasizes the need to assist them in obtaining housing and to consider allowing them to apply for housing.
