His Excellency the Governor of the General Organization for Grains, Engineer Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Faris, signed today a contract for the construction of the Daba concrete silos, along with related facilities and services, with a capacity of 120,000 metric tons, with a national company specializing in this field, under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Organization for Grains, Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadli.
Engineer Al-Fadli explained that this project is part of the initiative to develop the Early Warning System for Food and Emergencies and Strategic Stock Management, which aims to enhance the level of readiness and the quantities of food grain stocks, by adding a new port on the Red Sea capable of receiving and unloading large-capacity wheat ships to strengthen the supply system for the Kingdom’s northern regions, which are expected to see increased demand in light of the major projects currently being implemented, noting that the project will contribute—God willing—to achieving the state’s goals—may God preserve it—in the field of food security.
For his part, His Excellency the Governor of the General Organization for Grains revealed that the project is valued at 399,000,000 riyals, with an implementation period of 34 months. It will be implemented at the Port of Duba in accordance with the latest specifications and state-of-the-art technology in this field. He noted that the project consists of two separate units, each with a capacity of 60,000 tons, in addition to the installation of conveyors, grain handling equipment, and direct ship unloading equipment with a capacity of 1,000 tons per hour, a backup power generator station, and an integrated stormwater drainage system meeting the highest environmental standards, in addition to the project’s supporting facilities and works.
The signing ceremony was attended by Hassan bin Yahya Al-Hatem, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and Institutional Excellence and Head of the Vision Realization Office at the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture; as well as the Vice President for Shared Services of the National Transformation Program, Engineer Mamdouh bin Hamoud Al-Quraishi, and a number of officials from the Ministry and the Corporation.
