Yesterday, the Jeddah Provincial Secretariat, in collaboration with security agencies and service providers, began demolishing a number of buildings at risk of collapse—a total of 230 properties in the Al-Sabeel neighborhood within the jurisdiction of the Al-Balad Sub-Municipality.
Engineer Muhammad Al-Qahtani, Director General of Informal Settlements at the Municipality, explained, that the demolition is a continuation of the urban planning and demolition efforts carried out recently by the Jeddah Municipality in many areas and informal settlements, the most recent of which was the removal of illegal structures and workshops in the Kilo 8 neighborhood.
He noted that the Municipality completed the first and second phases over the past few weeks, which included distributing notices to buildings at risk of collapse, and that during the second phase, utilities were disconnected from the targeted buildings in preparation for demolition. He added that the Municipality began the third phase earlier this week, which involves the demolition of buildings at risk of collapse; 28 buildings were demolished during the first three days.
