The Contractors Committee of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry convened an expanded meeting bringing together stakeholders in the construction and contracting sector, as well as those responsible for implementing the largest architectural and construction projects in Jeddah, to discuss the obstacles they face, which are causing delays and setbacks in these projects.
For his part, Adnan bin Hussein Mandoura, Secretary General of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, called on all workers in the construction and development sector and owners of contracting companies to participate and attend the committee’s first sectoral meeting of its new term, with the aim of identifying all obstacles and problems facing workers in the sector and proposing solutions and implementation mechanisms to advance this broad sector, which is responsible for executing projects worth over 2.6 trillion riyals in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Engineer Muammar bin Sajdi Al-Attawi, Chairman of the Contractors Committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce, stated that the meeting seeks to coordinate efforts among all contractors to identify actual needs and engage with vital sectors to execute mega-projects, along with the need to implement the FIDIC contract in Saudi Arabia, which ensures balanced financial rights for both contracting companies and government agencies alike. He expressed his hope for the full implementation of the FIDIC contract system this year across all projects in every region of the Kingdom.
Al-Attawi called for collective action through this meeting to remove all obstacles facing contractors, viewing the gathering of contractors at the Jeddah Chamber as a great opportunity to raise all the important issues and challenges they face, hoping to produce recommendations that will be implemented on the ground.
