The Eastern Province Municipality has allocated more than one billion riyals in the current fiscal year’s budget for development projects in the city of Dammam, with the aim of improving infrastructure. It noted that 29 intersections are currently under review, more than half of which have been completed, while work is underway to implement the remainder.
The Secretary of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd Al-Jubeir, explained that the Eastern Province Municipality is working to develop the cities of the Dammam metropolitan area in all areas of planning, urban development, and growth, including the development of undeveloped residential areas in Dammam to alleviate congestion—whether population-related or traffic-related—and coordinating with other service providers to equip these areas with infrastructure prior to development,in addition to continuing development projects, upgrading intersections, constructing bridges and tunnels, and developing waterfronts.
According to Al-Jubeir, the development programs include the development and rehabilitation of main streets and roads; the expansion and improvement of residential areas and neighborhoods; the construction of public squares and the improvement of bridge intersections; the construction of bridges and tunnels at intersections;as well as parks, pedestrian walkways, and plazas; beach development; the completion of the waterfront development; the construction of municipal buildings and facilities; a debris recycling plant; and a waste sorting plant, in addition to various other projects that Al-Jubeir mentioned in his statement.
Al-Jubeir added: Budgets have been allocated to the municipalities affiliated with the Secretariat, and these projects included the construction of community centers, stormwater drainage stations, municipal plazas and walkways, road paving and lighting, central meat and vegetable markets, banquet halls, the completion of projects to improve and beautify city entrances, the implementation of traffic safety measures, street naming and numbering, land development, land filling and leveling, popular markets, main roads, and public parks, as well as well projects, network extensions, and waste disposal.
The Municipality is also working to develop plans, programs, and strategies related to transportation and traffic in the cities of Dammam through improvement and development projects for the components and facilities of the road and street network, thereby increasing their efficiency and traffic capacity.
