The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs approved the issuance of classification certificates to 280 construction companies and firms during the first quarter of 2015, an increase of 27 companies and firms compared to the total number of companies and firms that received classification during the same period in 2014. The Ministry has worked to reduce the time required to obtain classification certificates to less than 40 days from the date of submitting the application and providing all necessary paperwork and documents.
In a report, the Ministry indicated that the total number of contractors who applied for classification for the first time during the first quarter reached 154, in addition to 83 contractors who applied for reclassification, 36 contractors who applied for upgrades or additions, and 37 contractors whose classification certificates were extended.
The report issued by the Ministry indicated that the largest number of contractors who obtained classification certificates during this period were concentrated in the Riyadh region, with 115 contractors, while no companies or institutions from outside the Kingdom applied for classification certificates from the Ministry during the first quarter of 2015; the number of foreign contractors from outside the Kingdom whose certificates were valid as of the end of 2014 stood at 60.
With regard to the fields of maintenance and operations and their classification grades, the report indicated that the total number of contractors holding first-class classification certificates was 7, while the number of second-class contractors was 3, compared to 14 contractors classified in the third class and 56 contractors in thefourth grade, and 132 in the fifth grade.
