The Ministry of Industry Reveals the Number of Factories in the Kingdom as of the End of the First Quarter of 2023

The the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources the special bulletin on industrial sector indicators for the first quarter of 2023, which provides a comprehensive analysis of the industrial sector and includes numerous figures and variables reflecting the reality of the sector in the Kingdom.

Chemical product factories lead the way

The bulletin, issued by the Ministry’s National Center for Industrial and Mining Information, revealed that the number of factories in the Kingdom as of the end of the first quarter of 2023 reached 10,819, with an estimated capital of 1.432 trillion riyals. In terms of investment volume, factories engaged in the manufacture of chemical products lead the way, followed by factories producing other non-metallic mineral products, and then base metal factories.

It clarified that domestic factories lead by type of investment with more than 83.5%, followed by foreign factories with 8.5%, and then joint-venture factories with 8%, while the Riyadh region accounted for the largest share of the total number of factories with approximately 4,194 factories, followed by the Eastern Province with 2,476 factories, and then the Makkah Region with 2,068.

It indicated that small factories accounted for the largest share of the total number of factories by the end of the period, reaching 5,654 factories, followed by medium-sized factories at 4,341, followed by large factories, which numbered 824 of the total.

According to the bulletin, foreign investment in the Kingdom’s factories accounts for 8.5% of the total number of existing factories, and the number of foreign-owned factories in the Kingdom stands at 920, with a total investment of 71,283 billion riyals.
