Yesterday, Sunday, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs adopted a new mechanism for numbering buildings and structures in cooperation with the General Postal Corporation, and all municipal authorities in the Kingdom have been instructed to implement it.
Hamad bin Saad Al-Omar, the ministry’s official spokesperson, confirmed that the new mechanism involves installing a standardized plaque displaying the building number, the name of the street on which it is located, and the building number and address registered with the General Organization of Post, in addition to a “barcode” linked to the geographic information system, which helps quickly read all electronically connected utility subscriptions and develop an advanced electronic program to describe the address associated with them.
He explained that the new mechanism represents a rationalization of spending and a means to prevent duplication or overlap of building data, as a technical committee from the Ministry and the Saudi Postal Corporation will carry out the automated linking of the systems, All municipal secretariats have been authorized to implement the new mechanism, provided that the installation of previously designed plaques on buildings is halted and the plaques in existing contracts are amended according to the attached template that has been circulated.
