The Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, approved the amendment of the executive regulations of the Saudi Building Code Saudi Building Code, which will take effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, and cancel any previous decisions that contradict it. The regulation, which includes 19 articles to regulate and legalize the Saudi Building Code, stipulates that violating any of the code requirements or its system or regulations is considered a violation that requires removal or correction and exposes the perpetrator to the penalty as decided by the review committee when its legal requirement is met, and the imposition of the penalty is not an alternative to removal or correction.
The regulation also stipulates a penalty for violation of the code. The regulation also established a penalty of 10,000 riyals for the owner when carrying out construction work without contracting a supervising engineering office approved or licensed by the concerned authority to practice supervision work or the relevant authority, and the work shall be stopped until an engineering office, supervisor or contractor approved or licensed by the concerned authority is contracted.
The regulation also established a penalty of 10,000 riyals on the owner when carrying out construction work without contracting an approved or licensed contractor from the authority concerned with the practice of construction work activities or the relevant authority, and what was carried out in violation shall be removed or a report shall be submitted by the supervisory office on the safety of the work carried out.
