The Cabinet’s approval to establish a Saudi Contractors Authority has been well received by many government and private-sector entities, as it represents a qualitative leap forward for the sector and fulfills contractors“ key demands for a regulatory body that oversees the sector’s affairs and works to developand raise its standards in a way that serves the state’s projects, benefits the sector, and protects the interests of investors in it. The Cabinet had approved the establishment of the Authority at its meeting held the day before yesterday and tasked the Minister of Commerce and Industry with forming the Authority’s first board of directors, whose members are to be drawn from those with an interest in the contracting profession.

For his part, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Zamil, Chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers, praised the decision and considered it a strong boost from the state—may God support it—to the Kingdom’s construction sector. Al-Zamil added in press statements: ”Our expectations were well-founded when we in the private sector and other economic sectors anticipated a new phase of cooperation and partnership between the state and private-sector institutions following King Salman’s accession to the throne, in light of his well-known —may God support him—for his support of all economic activities, his insightful vision for economic development, and his deep understanding of all matters related to commercial activity. And now, supportive decisions for the economic sectors are coming one after another.”

In the same vein, Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Hammadi, Chairman of the National Contractors Committee, expressed his deep satisfaction with the realization of this initiative, which they had awaited for decades due to the urgent need for it to serve as a gateway to organize and support the construction sector—one of the most important development sectors in the Kingdom.
