In a strategic move aimed at promoting development and transforming the province of Al-Qatif into an integrated coastal oasis, the Eastern Province Development Authority Council approved the province’s master plan, setting it on a path to keep pace with the region’s development and reinforce its status as a sophisticated urban center that combines authenticity, heritage, and modern progress.
In this context, Engineer Omar bin Saleh Al-Abdulatif, CEO of the Eastern Region Development Authority, explained that the announcement of the Authority’s Board’s approval of the comprehensive plan for Al-Qatif Governorate came after all required regulatory procedures had been completed. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province and Chairman of the Authority’s Board, for his support and continuous guidance, which played a major role in shaping the comprehensive plan and realizing its ambitious vision.
Al-Abdullatif added that the approval of the comprehensive plan for Qatif will soon be followed by the approval of the comprehensive plans for the governorates of Hafar Al-Batin and Al-Bayda, as part of the Authority’s plan to prepare regional and local plans for all governorates in the region. He noted that these plans are in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development across various sectors.
The comprehensive plan for the province of Al-Qatif aims to achieve a comprehensive developmental renaissance by promoting economic development, improving social cohesion, and revitalizing the urban environment, while preserving the governorate’s unique heritage sites. The plan also capitalizes on Al-Qatif’s comparative advantages, such as its coastal and agricultural areas, mangrove forests, and heritage assets, making it a vital hub connecting the present and the future.
The comprehensive plan establishes general development policies and identifies development priorities, ensuring coordination among government agencies and organizing efforts according to pre-agreed priorities. The plan also includes the preparation of comprehensive plans and studies covering urban, demographic, economic, and social sectors, as well as the development of infrastructure and environmental systems, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life and providing the public services and facilities needed by the province.
These steps aim to strengthen Al-Qatif Governorate’s position as an economic, cultural, and tourist hub, thereby contributing to comprehensive development and raising citizens’ standard of living, while preserving the region’s distinctive cultural and natural heritage.
