Sustainable Building Program announced that about 90 million m2 of community areas have been registered for “Sustainable” certificates since the launch of the program until the end of the third quarter of 2024.
He explained that the areas of communities during 2024 exceeded 39 million m2, representing 44% of the total areas registered since the launch of the sustainability assessment service, and reflects the increasing growth in the demand of major projects for the sustainability assessment service and the adoption of the culture of sustainability; to build more sustainable residential and commercial urban communities.

Riyadh topped the list of registered projects with more than 25 million m2, followed by Medina with more than 8 million m2, and Jeddah with more than 5 million m2.
As the first Saudi assessment system developed in accordance with international best practices aligned with the Saudi Building Code, the Sustainability Assessment System enables property owners and real estate developers
The system enables property owners and developers to measure the sustainability of new and existing buildings and communities by following environmental standards to increase energy and water efficiency, improve quality of life through the provision of parks and basic facilities, and provide safe bicycle and pedestrian paths.
The Sustainability Assessment System (SAS) - an international fellowship from the World Green Building Council (WGBC) - assesses the sustainability of projects at all stages of development, based on the number of points met from sustainability criteria; residential and commercial buildings and communities are assessed for design and construction or operation and maintenance, and projects are categorized into five levels, from green to diamond level.
