Brandon Turner, a prominent American investor and real estate expert, revealed the main challenges that prevent individuals from entering the field of real estate investment, despite their strong desire to do so. In a post on the social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter), Turner highlighted the main reasons for these obstacles and offered practical advice on how to successfully overcome them.
Brandon, author of “Investing in Rental Properties,” explained that millions of people read books on real estate investment, but nearly 90% of them never take the actual step of making a purchase. Turner wondered why so many people learn without applying what they’ve learned, and identified three key factors that stand in the way of beginners.
Reason #1: Burnout from Too Much Effort. Turner pointed out that buying a rental property requires significant effort, and after closing the deal, some realize they need a large number of properties to secure their retirement or achieve wealth, which causes them to give up. To overcome this, Turner advised focusing on the immediate steps rather than looking at the big picture, saying, “Focus on what you can accomplish today, and within a few years you’ll find you’ve come a long way.”
He also emphasized the importance of gradual progress: “It may be better to take small steps every day, as you can quickly scale up from one unit to five units and then to dozens of units.”
Reason #2: Lack of Clarity Turner added that the ambiguity in decision-making caused by the variety of investment options leads many to hesitate. He said the situation is like walking into a candy store where there are so many options that choosing the best one becomes overwhelming. To overcome this, he advised making a decision based on clear criteria such as strategy, location, property type, condition, price, and profitability, while setting a deadline for the decision and stopping overthinking.
Reason Three: Difficulty Finding a Deal Finally, Turner noted that one of the biggest obstacles facing beginners is the inability to find profitable deals, which leads to frustration and causes them to give up. He explained that deals aren’t just waiting on the street; rather, one must learn how to successfully close deals by studying cash flow strategies and analyzing offers to assess their potential, not just based on their current condition.
With these tips, Turner emphasizes that success in real estate investing requires patience, clarity, and continuous learning to turn your aspirations into reality.
