The Eastern Province Secretariat has begun Al-Khobar Waterfront, covering an area of more than 265,000 square meters, The project will be carried out in several phases to reinforce Al-Khobar’s position as a leading destination for tourism, residence, and work, and to provide visitors to the Corniche with a unique opportunity to engage in various recreational and sporting activities. The project is of particular importance for its contribution to the development of Al-Khobar’s infrastructure, particularly in terms of the community’s overall public health, as the project expands opportunities for running and walking, thereby helping to improve physical fitness, and thus directly contributes to improving the community’s overall health by focusing on facilities that allow the public to engage in various forms of exercise.
The Municipality noted that the development project the waterfront covers an area of more than 265,000 square meters and extends over 4,000 meters in length. The development work includes the rehabilitation of all walkways, 4,000 meters of walking trails, a 9,000-meter-long bike path, landscaping and beautification, the creation of three play areas, the development of a Corniche overlook covering 6,000 square meters, an interactive ground fountain, service and commercial facilities, the removal of the concrete barrier and its replacement with an aluminum fence, the planting of more than 900 trees, the installation of over 600 decorative lighting fixtures, and modern seating areas; the rehabilitation and improvement of 875 existing parking spaces; the creation of a sandy beach; and the installation of a number of artistic sculptures that enhance the aesthetic appeal for Corniche visitors.
It is worth noting that the project aims to create a healthy, community-oriented, and cultural environment that promotes walking by providing pedestrian paths, green spaces, and sports facilities; thereby encouraging visitors and regular users to adopt a healthy lifestyle, while the development of green spaces will help create attractive and vibrant areas. The project is a new addition to the tourist attractions in Al-Khobar Governorate and strengthens its position on the Kingdom’s tourism map.
